October - November

Trip from Finike marina to Cavus bay, Tekirova, Phaselis and Cineviz bay.

Lovely to be out on the water again sailing up the coast. The first night we anchored in Cavus bay.

However, the thunderstorm we thought we were leaving behind came round the mountains and followed us - not the warm, sunny, blue skies we have been used to! First time the waterproofs have been out this year.

 Amazing skies after the storm.

Overnight anchorage in Tekirova bay - actually the site of the ancient southern harbour.

The next morning we rowed ashore and went to explore Phaselis - an ancient Lycian / Roman site dating back to 7th Century BC. This is the main avenue into the site with the agora (marketplace) on the left of the picture.

A beautiful old amphitheatre, fairly small in comparison to others we have seen but very atmospheric. It once held 2000 people.
Wonderful to wander round with so much to see that has been preserved but not rebuilt.

One of the many Roman baths where you can still see where the water was heated and run under the floor.

The old northern harbour and military harbour.

The Roman aquaduct which brought water from the hills outside the city which was then distributed through channels and water pipes.

Yes I know this looks like a picture of water but if you look really closely you can just see the flying fish. We saw lots on our way back down the coast but almost impossible to photograph!

Overnight anchorage in Cineviz - we had the bay to ourselves - just a fisherman's shack on shore. This picture is looking out of the bay and, at night with binoculars, we could just see the Chimera - an area where flames continually come out of the rocks. Either gases burning or the monster breathing fire. This was the creature that Bellerophon tried to kill when he rode on Pegasus and poured moulten lead into the creature's mouth. However, the creature was eternal so we still see the fire today (much more interesting than burning gas!!)

Evening light - another fabulous sky.
