The obligatory palm tree

Mothers meeting! We came across these chickens in Geni, a small peninsular on Vliho bay, 7 hens in a perfect circle chatting away, is this normal for hens?

At last the final stage of the solar panels complete and we now have enough power to run the fridge 24/7

The island of Scorpios just sold by the Onassis family there is one species of tree for every day of the year on the island.

Skipper at the wheel cold beer in hand great day

This is Little Vathi on Meganisi really nice place to stop while it's quite, there's only been three yachts in here today.

Lots of swallows about, this one was chirping at us this morning.

Views out to Scorpios and lefkarda at sunset

OMG the bikes are amazing had there first major outing today and even the hill climbing was a pleasure

Views across the bay from Spartahori half way on our cycle ride

 Almost home!

Saturday, 20 April 2013

Sam up the mast replacing the VHF aerial that had snapped off in the wind over the winter.

On Vliho quay - Gantry welded onto the back of Serenity by Ade ready to take the solar panels.

Leaving Vliho with solar panels fitted by Dave - happy now he can have cold beer 24/7. Panels working well, but still can't buy through hull fitting for the cables.

First stop - favourite spot in Spartihori on Meganisi - evening sun looking back towards Nidri. Early in season so had quay to ourselves.

On to Kioni on Ithaca after a stop over in Sivota on south coast of Lefkada. Came up against the local "gang" but some fish skins from dinner kept them happy.

Veiws of Kioni bay. A beautiful walk from Kioni round the coast to Frikes. Met a lovely Australian couple - David and Shani cycling round with Bonaparte the little white dog running up but enjoying a ride in the basket back down. stopped off on their boat - Scarlett - in Frikes for cup of tea before walking back.

Next stop a few miles down the east coast of Ithaca to Vathi

From Vathi to Fiskardo in the north of Kephalonia - just opening up for the season - never seen it so empty.

Foki bay just south of Fiskardo, beautiful bay, but really need a dinghy to get ashore, should pick it up on the weekend, fantastic cave system that we visited with Katy and Harry. Not warm enough to swim yet!

Sailing down between Ithaca and Kephalonia looking for the elusive Mediterranean monk seal - apparently nearly extinct but have been seen in this area - unfortunately not by us though!

John at the helm on his last day with us. Got very cold and ended up in jeans and windproof top!

Oh dear!! What can I say? Not a pretty sight! Glass held in with sellotape. Phones don't seem to cope well with marble floors

Beautiful walk up to Nidri waterfalls - avocados ready to pick

A good time of year for wildflowers - a huge selection but this was most unusual - no idea what it is.

Dave and John

Oranges and lemons growing on the same tree?

Very picturesque walk up the valley from the main street in Nidri

Paddled and picked our way round this rock to get to the end.

Worth the hour's walk up to the waterfall at the end of the valley

Back for tea and cakes on the balcony but too slow taking picture and the cakes have gone!

Boat launching day - very clever tractor and trailer manoeuvring. They tow boats around the yard and then reverse the trailer into the water until the boat floats off - amazing!

Our turn next - standing on deck while they reverse the trailer under Serenity, remove the props and she's off

"It's OK" says John "there is a centimetre clearance here!" Skipper looks worried! If it gets too close they use the hydraulics on the supports to tip the boat a little to get past - a strange feeling when you are standing on deck!

Oranges and lemons ready for scrumping!!!

Avery wet day, still quite warm, but definitely NOT summer!
You can just see mountains in the clouds.

4th April, much sunnier day, on our way to pick up John from Vassiliki

Fresh water from a natural spring, in troughs used for washing clothes.
Vassiliki, amazing colours! feeling a bit more like summer.

John arrives after spending two nights on Fiskahdo waiting for the ferry to run.
Fiskahdo was apparently shut for the winter, not even a cafe open
The boat on stilts, working at 9 feet off the ground takes some getting used to.

Anti fowling all done, very mucky job, Boat due to go in Tuesday / Wednesday although with the bad weather it may be later in the week.
Rory's birthday party at the Vlicho Yacht Club, 6th April, there was a general invite to local Brits, Rory provided an amazing barbecue and buffet with live group. Really nice evening!
