After a great few weeks in the UK catching up with family and friends, we are back in the Ionian. Dave flew out first and had great fun sailing the boat single handed from Sivota to Corfu. Just as I was leaving the berth in Sivota harbour, three other boats decided to do the same, very interesting in such a confined space, but fortunately they all suddenly realised that there was nobody on the helm of Serenity, I was weighing the anchor, so they gave me some space, phew!! Had an uneventful sail to Corfu and picked up Ann from the airpot on 29th Aug. We have finally, after much shopping around, bought a Greek Mifi sim with 3GB of data for only €15, but it a summer deal and only available for one month. Still we hope to be over wintering the boat in Crete and we will get free wifi while there.
On that note, would anyone be able to crew for us, 29th Sept for 2 weeks? the plan is as follows:
Sami to Zakinthos 35NM
Zakinthos to Pilos 55NM
Pilos to Kapsali 80NM
Kapsail to Chania 65NM
Chania to Nikolaos 100NM (could be more stops along north coast of Crete)
We would plan to have a day in each port, so perhaps more of a cruise than delivery.
Met Mari & Pete on 31st aug in Corfu, from the plane landing, they managed to get to the boat in just 25mins, including collecting luggage, amazing! We sailed the next day for Sivota to meet Steve who I worked with at Neilson last year. Spent a great day catching up and went out to anchor and swim followed by a visit to the infamous Steak House!
Next day was a long motor/sail down to Lefkas town on Lefkada where we provided some entertainment to other boats when the anchor chain knotted itself at precisely the wrong moment - don't ever remember that happening before!
From there it was down to Spartahori - our favourite spot on Meganisi - after a lunch stop and swim off Skorpios - previously the Onassis family island recently sold to the 24 year old daughter of a Russian. She appeared to have employed guards to tell us exactly where we could and could not anchor so we didn't argue!
The next few days were spent in Abelike bay, Little Sivota and an idyllic bay we all to ourselves just outside big Vathi on Ithaca. Why did no-one else stop here I wonder - did Dave really put them off??
Dave has asked me to say that these were all his photos. I did take lots but fish swim very fast don't they?!! I could show you lots of pictures of stones underwater but not very interesting. I did see a cuttle fish but he was so well camouflaged you can't see him in the weeds - honestly!
So here is the evasive cuttlefish!!
So beautiful and peaceful we stayed two days - it was just like swimming in an aquarium - there were so many different varieties of fish.
Now we are in Sami on Kefallonia having said a very sad farewell to Pete and Mari - we had SUCH a fun week with them and learnt to play cribbage..... 4 -1 to Pete and I, I think it was!!! Not that we were in the least bit competitive! (By the way I should point out that it is Ann writing now)
Now we are staying in Sami doing laundry and cleaning etc before Steph and Nigel come out to join us on Saturday which we are really looking forward to.
Will download photos when Ann remembers lead to connect phone!
