A week with Harry, Eimile, Cat & Chris

We had such a great week with these four.

Evening drinks watching the sun go down in the north bay on the island of Procida.

From Procida island we sailed a short way across to the island of Ischia and anchored below the castle.

A quiet corner in the old castle.

Quite a maze of passageways, terraces and an assortment of small buildings.

Aragonese Castle is a medieval castle next to Ischia. The castle stands on a volcanic rocky islet that connects to the larger island of Ischia by a 220m long causeway.

The view down from the castle to where Serenity was anchored.

One of the rooms in the castle featured some interesting artwork!

Looking back at the castle complex from the causeway.

Waiting for a lift back to the boat as the dinghy was deflating and then the outboard motor packed up on us! Thanks to the taxi boat for the lift and tow!
Dave then stripped down, cleaned and serviced the outboard so, fingers crossed, all in good working order again. Also several resealing jobs to stop the leaks.

We left our anchorage on Ischia at 4.30am to sail across to arrive at the Blue Grotto on Capri before the tripper boats started and we wouldn't be able to swim in. We watched the sun rising behind Mount Vesuvius.

Early start for the crew but all agreed it was definitely worth it when we got to the grotto!

Looking across to the entrance to the grotto from our mooring buoy.

In the Blue Grotto - unbelievably blue water and a myriad of fish under this arch.

The round hole in the top right hand corner was the entrance we swam through to enter the cave as seen in the previous picture. This had to be timed carefully as any swell would wash in and fill this space.

At 9.00am the tripper boats arrived, ferrying tourists into the grotto on the tiny boats with all passengers lying flat to get under the arch. We had been so lucky to be able to swim in and have the whole place to ourselves. Thank you to Wolfgang and Ursula for this tip!

We left the Blue Grotto on the north coast of Capri and sailed around to anchor off the south coast just by these amazing rock formations. Harry, Eimile, Cat and Chris went ashore to explore while Dave and I stayed on board as the anchorage was very full and getting busier. So busy that when Dave took them ashore in the dinghy they were supposed to queue at the jetty to drop off. Needless to say Harry and Chris spotted a useful rock that they could all get on to much to the disgust of the man in charge of the jetty "You can't do that!"

A quiet moment as we approach Amalfi.

The beautiful town of Amalfi from the sea.

The entrance to the cathedral in the centre of town.

Looking back to the square from the cathedral steps.

A view taken in the cloisters of the cathedral.

Lunch in Amalfi.

Eimile having a go at paper making at the museum in town.

The hammers used to pulverise the cloth that used to be used to make the paper.

The floating Pineapple Bar is open for business!

Chris' heroic rescue of the Pineapple Bar!

A very poor photo but a nice one to conclude this post of an amazing week with great company!
